ELECTIONS ON TUESDAY, JULY 17 – POLLS OPEN 6:30 am - 7:30 pm

A Second Primary has been requested and will be held on July 17, 2012. Both Republican and Democratic parties will be holding a Second Primary on this date. As the Second Primary is a continuation of the Primary held on May 8th, voters will only be eligible to vote in the party's primary with which they are registered. Unaffiliated voters who voted in the Primary are only eligible to vote in that party's Second Primary in which they participated in during the Primary Election. No local contests will be on the Second Primary ballot for either party. The Republican Secondary Primary will consist of NC Lieutenant Governor candidates Dan Forest and Tony Gurley; NC Commissioner of Insurance candidates Richard Morgan and John Causey; NC Secretary of State candidates Kenneth Gardner and Edward Goodwin; and NC Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates John Tedesco and Richard Alexander. The Democratic Second Primary will consist of one contest for NC Commissioner of Labor between candidates Marlowe Foster and John Brooks.

 

JULY TOWN COUNCIL MEETING RESCHEDULED

The Town Council rescheduled the July meeting from Tuesday, July 17th to Thursday, July 19th at 6:30 pm. Reason for rescheduling is to allow the Council room to be used as the voting precinct for a second primary to be held July 17th.

 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Kure Beach Town Council will hold a public hearing at Town Hall as the first item of business at its regular meeting to be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 6:30 pm, or soon thereafter. The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comments on a proposed ordinance amendment to the Code of Ordinances, Chapter 19 (Zoning), Article IV, Section 321.5 Prerequisite to construction, demolition, remodeling and impervious surfaces, etc. The proposed amendment outlines the permissible materials to be used for driveways when serving a single family residence.

FREE SUMMER CONCERT ON FRIDAY – BLP

From 6:30 – 8:30 pm this Friday night, July 13th, the classic rock band “BLP” will be performing at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area as part of the Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Town of Kure Beach. Grab your chairs or blankets and come on down for a good time. Food is available for purchase from the vendors on the concert field, or you can pack you own. Do NOT bring beverages or pets. Beverages can be purchased from the vendor at the concert.

 

KB COMMUNITY CENTER ANNUAL BARBECUE on AUGUST 18TH

The Kure Beach Community Center Committee will be holding their annual summer barbecue on Saturday, August 18th from 4:00 -8:00 pm, or until the food runs out. The event will be held in the KB Community Center which is located at 118 3rd Avenue, behind Big Daddy’s Restaurant. Pulled pork barbecue will be provided by Middle of the Island Catering and cole slaw will be provided by Big Daddy’s Restaurant. In addition to the barbecue and slaw, buttered parsley potatoes, baked beans, iced tea and rolls will be served. Last but not least, you will be able to choose a luscious, homemade dessert to top off your mail. Tickets are $8.00 at the door. Take out plates will be available; however we encourage you to just sit right down and enjoy a great meal at the center with your family, friends and neighbors. OCEAN FRONT PARK CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

The new ADA crossover and boardwalk from K to L Avenue is complete and open for use. Four swings will be installed on the boardwalk in the bump out areas that have been added. Benches will also be added to the boardwalk. The Town will be offering commemorative/dedication opportunities for the swings, benches and the boardwalk. More information about this will be coming soon. Part of the concrete slab for the pavilion has been poured and work on the public restroom has resumed.

 

NOTICE OF PERMANENT COMMITTEE MEETING TIME CHANGE

The Marketing Advisory Committee voted to permanently change the time of their regular monthly meeting from 11:00 am to 11:30 am. The committee meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month. There will be no meeting in July, so the next meeting of the committee will be at Town Hall on Tuesday, August 28th at 11:30 am. This meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.
