FREE SUMMER CONCERT ON FRIDAY – BEACH BILLY BROTHERS

From 6:30 – 8:30 pm this Friday night, July 27th, the beach music/classic R&B band “Beach Billy Brothers” will be performing at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area as part of the Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Town of Kure Beach. Grab your chairs or blankets and come on down for a good time. Food is available for purchase from the vendors on the concert field, or you can pack you own. Do NOT bring beverages or pets. Beverages can be purchased from the vendor at the concert.

 

REGISTER NOW FOR TENNIS CLASSES

Register now for the next session of weekday tennis classes. The next session starts July 30/31. This session will be 4 weeks and the session fee will be prorated. The first fall session starts Sept. 3/4 (Sept 3 is Labor Day, the first Monday class will makeup on Wednesday Sept 5). Junior classes will once again be held in the afternoons in the fall. KB COMMUNITY CENTER ANNUAL BARBECUE on AUGUST 18TH

The Kure Beach Community Center Committee will be holding their annual summer barbecue on Saturday, August 18th from 4:00 -8:00 pm, or until the food runs out. The event will be held in the KB Community Center which is located at 118 North 3rd Avenue, behind Big Daddy’s Restaurant. Pulled pork barbecue will be provided by Middle of the Island Catering and cole slaw will be provided by Big Daddy’s Restaurant. In addition to the barbecue and slaw, buttered parsley potatoes, baked beans, iced tea and rolls will be served. Last but not least, you will be able to choose a luscious dessert to top off your meal. Tickets are $8.00 at the door. Take out plates will be available; however we encourage you to just sit right down and enjoy a great meal at the center with your family, friends and neighbors. Mayor Dean Lambeth wants to hear your thoughts and concerns regarding the Kure Beach community. Come and meet with him on Saturday mornings at Town Hall from 9:00 -11:00 am.

 

TOWN COUNCIL ACTIONS 7/19/12

COMMITTEES

  • · Council appointed Michael Bledsoe to the Shoreline Access & Parking Committee.

COUNCIL/LEGAL

  • · Council voted to allow the closing of Dow Road from Ocean Boulevard to K Avenue, west of 7th Avenue, on Wednesday, July 25th from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm if DOT will advertise the closing 48 hours in advance with their signs posted at both ends of the closed area. (Note: The closure will be made to allow for filming of a movie sequence.)
  • · Council adopted a policy regarding special events for non-profits as a new section, Section 3.02, for the Town’s Policy Manual. (Note that the new policy states that the Got Em On Live Bait Club, Step Up For Soldiers, Carolina Beach Parks & Recreation Children’s Fishing Tournament and the Trinity Charity Ride are exempt from having to make application with the Town for approval of its events.)

FINANCE/BUDGET

  • · Council voted to re-invoice Set Up Events for the unpaid balance of $240 for this year’s Triathlon and Sportsfest Event.
  • · Council voted to approve the purchase of a beach wheelchair in the amount of $2,280, as requested by the Shoreline Access & Parking Committee, to be paid for out of the Committee budget.
  • · Council voted to accept the proposal for a wooden pirate ship for the Ocean Front Park’s tot lot at a cost to the Town of $5,163.

PROJECTS

  • Council voted to accept the proposal for a wooden pirate ship for the Ocean Front Park’s tot lot at a cost to the Town of $5,163.

ORDINANCES/RESOLUTIONS/PROCLAMATIONS

  • Council voted to send the draft amendment to Chapter 19 Zoning, Article IV Supplemental District Regulations, Section 321.5. Prerequisite to construction, demolition, remodeling and impervious surfaces, etc. back to the Planning & Zoning Commission to make it consistent with the Storm Water Ordinance and then bring it back to Council for approval.

  • Approved July 27, 2012 continued to July 2, 2012 Emergency Renourishment meeting

FOLLOW UP

  • The Planning and Zoning Commission is to present at Council’s regular August meeting a firm date in September when they would like to hold a joint work session with Council to discuss the K Avenue Extension project.

  • Smoking on the Beach Ban (Note: Town Attorney gave opinion that Town doesn’t have authority to ban smoking; only State has authority.)
