Kure Beach, NC
Kure Beach is located to the south of Carolina Beach towards the southern tip of Pleasure Island, minutes from Wilmington NC. Kure Beach is mostly residential with modest beach cottages, luxury ocean front homes, many new homes, a number of beach motels and several condominiums. A fishing pier, tasty restaurants, an arcade and a boardwalk are located in the center of town. There is also a dog park, tennis courts, playground and frisbee golf course. Kure Beach is also building an ocean front park!
Year round residents total around 2,000.
On Kure Beach, North Carolina, a small army of volunteers is getting up early every morning in the summer to make sure that some of the area's smallest visitors are protected. The Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project sends its volunteers searching for and protecting the nests of endangered loggerhead turtles during June and July so that the hatchlings can emerge in August and march to the sea.
Fort Fisher is located to the south of Kure Beach where you will visit a State Historic Site and State Recreation Area. The rec area has 4 miles of wide, unspoiled beach, and a bathhouse with restrooms. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is North Carolina's largest aquarium. At the southern end of Fort Fisher is the Fort Fisher-Southport Ferry and a public boat launch area that is popular for windsurfing, parasailing, kayaking and fishing.
