INSTALLATION OF SIDEWALK ON NORTH SIDE OF K AVENUE – PUBLIC HEARING NOVEMBER 15

The Town Council is considering a request from the Shoreline Access and Parking committee to install a sidewalk on the north side of K Avenue beginning at Third Avenue and continuing to Seventh Avenue.

The sidewalk will begin ten (10) feet from the street and will be five (5) feet in width. There will be no curbing. Click on THIS LINK to see a mock up of the location of the proposed sidewalk.

The Town plans to share the cost of the installation with the Department of Transportation (DOT), as this portion of K Avenue is a state road. The sidewalk will be installed on the DOT Right of Way. The Town’s portion of the cost will be paid from Powell Bill Funds (gas tax).

A public hearing will be held on this proposal on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 5:30 pm, or soon thereafter, at Town Hall in the Council Room.

If you are unable to attend the hearing, comments may be sent to Town Council via the Town Clerk at townclerk@townofkurebeach.org; via fax 910-458-7421; or via mail to the Town Clerk’s attention at 117 Settlers Lane, Kure Beach, NC 28449

REZONING OF K AVENUE – JOINT WORKSESSION NOVEMBER 1

The Town Council is considering rezoning K Avenue from Fourth Avenue to Seventh Avenue to allow commercial and/or mixed use. The Town’s Land Use Plan identifies this area as the ‘K Avenue corridor’ and highlights the area for future expansion of the commercial district.

Current zoning in this area is as follows:

Allowed uses are one/two/multi family dwellings; motel/guest cottages; retail business to include service to the public; parking lot (with a special use permit); store or shop for custom work or to make articles mostly sold on site; business providing service of rental; or real estate offices.
  • ·         Fifth Avenue to Seventh Avenue is zoned RA-1. Allowed uses are one family dwelling; places of worship; college/school/public library/ public museum/ art gallery/ public buildings (with a special use permit); or home occupation.

A joint work session of the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Town Council will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 6 pm, or soon thereafter, at Town Hall in the Council Room. This is a preliminary meeting and is open to the public. This is the first of many meetings that will be held before any rezoning takes place

If you are unable to attend the meeting, comments may be sent to Town Council via the Town Clerk at townclerk@townofkurebeach.org; via fax 910-458-7421; or via mail to the Town Clerk’s attention at 117 Settlers Lane, Kure Beach, NC 28449
