BUS TRIP TO MIKE’S FARM – DECEMBER 6 Kure Beach Parks & Recreation invites you on a trip to Mike’s Farm in Beulaville, NC, on Tuesday, December 6 for the low price of just $46/person ($45/seniors 55+). This all-inclusive price provides roundtrip bus fare, driver tip, dinner and hayride. The bus leaves KB Town Hall at 3:30 pm. After arriving at the farm, you’ll have time to shop in the Country Store and Gift Shop before a 6:00 pm dinner. Menu includes country ham biscuits, fresh fried chicken, tender pork loin & gravy, assorted vegetables, Ms. Mike’s famous mac and cheese, and assorted homemade desserts from their bakery. After dinner, we’ll take a hayride through the woods to enjoy Mike’s famous Festival of Lights show before heading home. Registration deadline is November 14. Seating is limited on the bus, so come to Kure Beach Town Hall and make your reservation today!
FORT FISHER FALL FESTIVAL - OCTOBER 22 The Fort Fisher State Historic Site will host the Fort Fisher Fall Festival from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with scenic hayrides, children's activities, guided tours and multiple firings of its 32-pound rifled and banded cannon. Tours of the site will be offered at 9:30 & 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. This will also mark the debut of their special new exhibit: the Freeman Medal of Honor and its associated artifacts. Don’t miss the presentation regarding the exhibit which will be given by the curator at 1:30 pm at the museum. This is a free event and open to the public. Cannon firings are scheduled for 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 5:30pm. Visitors and residents are advised that noise from cannon firing is extremely loud.
SPECIAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 1 @ 6:00 PM At Town Hall on November 1 @ 6:00 pm, there will be a special, joint workshop with council and Planning & Zoning Commission to discuss rezoning K Avenue, from 3rd to 7th Avenue, into a mixed-use district. This meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.
NOTICE OF 2011 ELECTIONS Municipal Elections will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 for the position of Mayor; 2 Council seats for 4-year terms, and 1 Council seat for a 2-year unexpired term ending in 2013. All registered voters with the New Hanover County Board of Elections who reside within the municipal boundaries of each jurisdiction will be eligible to vote in their assigned Precinct. All Polling Places on November 8th will be open from 6:30 am until 7:30 pm. The Town Hall Council Room is the polling precinct for Kure Beach. One-Stop Absentee Voting for all elections will begin October 20th and continue through November 5th at the following Wilmington locations and times: 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 39, M-F, 9am-5pm; Senior Resource Center, 2222 S. College Road, M-F, 11am-6pm; Main Library (3rd floor), 201 Chestnut Street, M-F, 11am-6pm. Saturday only for all locations is November 5th, 9am-1pm. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot to be mailed is 5pm, Tuesday, November 1st. Voter Registration Deadline is Friday, October 14th at 5pm.
