KURE BEACH DOUBLE-SPRINT TRIATHLON THIS SUNDAY

Kure Beach will be hosting the annual, Double-Sprint Triathlon this Sunday, June 26, from 7:00-11:00 am. Activity will be in the vicinity of Joe Eakes Park and the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. The KB police will be directing traffic, but expect delays and plan accordingly. If you have questions, contact John Batson at 910-458-6535. If you have problem issues during the event that need attention, call 911 as this is the fastest way to get in touch with someone from the police department. SUMMER CONCERT THIS COMING FRIDAY NIGHT

Come on down to the Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area this Friday night from 6:30-8:30 pm to hear classic rock & blues tunes performed by “Blind Lemon Pledge” as part of the Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Town of Kure Beach. Bring your own dinner or purchase from the concessions that will be available on the concert field.

 

KB OCEAN RESCUE BBQ FUNDRAISER

Come on out and support your local ocean rescue team at the Kure Beach Fire Department on Friday, June 24 at 6:30pm. Menu includes pulled pork and coleslaw with a dinner roll, corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, sweet tea/soft drinks, and banana pudding for dessert. There will be music and raffles, too. Cost is just $7 for adults and $5 for kids.

 

HURRICANE INFORMATION SESSIONS

The town is sponsoring Hurricane information sessions at Kure Beach Town Hall on the following dates. The town’s Emergency Response Coordinator, David Heglar, will lead the session. We encourage you to come and ask questions to help you with your personal emergency planning.

STATE FAIR BUS TRIP – SURVEYING YOUR INTEREST

The NC State Fair in Raleigh takes place October 14-24, 2011, and Seniors aged 65+ will be admitted FREE of charge. There is an admission fee for all others, except children 5 and under. Kure Beach Parks & Recreation is planning a bus trip to the fair, but we need to hear from you before final plans are made. Can we count on you to join us for this bus trip? We plan to leave from Town Hall at 9:00 am on Thursday, October 20, and the bus will take everyone back to Town Hall, leaving the fair at 4:00 pm. You will be free to enjoy the fair at your own pace. A fee of about $15-$20 per person will be charged for bus transportation, depending on the cost of the bus. You will be responsible for all other costs at the fair. Please respond via email if you’d be interested in going, and give us an idea of how many people you’d like to bring with you. Once it has been determined that there is enough interest in the trip, we’ll schedule it and send out a notice.

SUMMER GARBAGE PICKUP FOR RESIDENTS

The Town is offering its summer garbage pickup again this year to residents of Kure Beach. Besides having your regular garbage pickup during the week, you can also opt to have an extra pickup every Saturday or Sunday for just $50 per can, per month, for a minimum of 2 months. The Town of Kure Beach is always looking for residents who would like to serve on Town committees. The Town is particularly looking for a volunteer to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

FT. FISHER BEACH HOUSE BAR & GRILL

This facility, located along the Cape Fear River on the grounds of the Ft. Fisher Air Force Recreation Area, will be open for business on the following days/hours:

  • ·                    FRIDAYS from 5 – 9pm, except June 10 & 24, July 8 & 22, August 12 & 26. Those are the dates that the Summer Concert Series will be held from 6:30 – 8:30pm on the grounds. On those dates, BBQ sandwiches, hotdogs and drinks will be for sale on the concert field.
