There are so many things to do on our island in the Fall and Winter, and this week I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you!
Those of us who live on the island full time, or frequently visit, have come to really enjoy the winter months at the beach too!
On December 2nd, Carolina Beach hosts the Christmas Parade Party. This is a must see parade—so much fun. No Macy’s floats, but Shriners on go-carts, marching bands, decked-out cars, and lots of holiday spirit.
On December 3rd is the Island of Lights Flotilla, so be sure to claim your waterfront spot and check out the beautiful boats that cruise through Myrtle Grove Sound.
From December 9th – 11th be sure to check out the Kure Beach Christmas Fantasy Show (7:00 pm help beside the Kure Beach Fire Department).
And for the big night, the New Year's Celebration will be held on New Year's Eve, December 31st, at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. Don't miss the giant lighted beach ball being dropped at midnight followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration.
For those who enjoy a little more spontaneity, try a ferry ride to Southport and back…just for fun!
On your way to Ft Fisher, be sure to stop at the Aquarium. This place is amazing! My son and I go once a week, we’re on a first name basis with the fish! If you time it right you may also see Santa swimming with the sharks!
For porpoises sightings, take a stroll on the Kure Beach or Carolina Beach Piers. I love them both, and this year there are no shortage of porpoises playing in the surf.
Oh, and for us humans, the surf this time of year can be great. Grab your wetsuit and board, and enjoy the crystal blue (but chilly) water!
The Carolina Beach State Park is beautiful and uncrowded this time of year. If you’ve never hiked the Sugarloaf Trail, then you’ve got to try it out. Be sure to read about the history of this dune as well, it’s fascinating!
If its time to shop, be sure to visit our local merchants, artists and stores. We need to support one another here at the beach! I particularly like the work of sculptor Shaw Lakey.
If you’re in the mood for a beer, I recommend a “seat” next to the fireplace at the Fat Pelican. Once you’re warmed-up, be sure to then say “hi” to the island’s other watering holes!
Of course if you are wanting to buy or sell a house, I promise to make this a fun and rewarding experience too.
Since 2006, I have personally SOLD 193 properties on the island, with a total sales volume of nearly $70,000,000.00. This is 93 more homes and $23,500,000.00 more in sales than the #2 agent.
So if you want a local and experienced agent to answer questions about the island, or the housing market in general, please give me a buzz today!
