TOWN HALL CLOSED FOR VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11 This is a reminder that Kure Beach Town Hall will be closed tomorrow, November 11, for the Veteran’s Day holiday. If you have an emergency with your water and/or sewer lines, please call Public Works at 910-458-5816 to report the problem. As always, dial 911 if you need the assistance of our Police or Fire Departments. Town Hall will reopen on Monday, November 14.
DECEMBER 6 BUS TRIP TO MIKE’S FARM – DEADLINE NOVEMBER 14 – THIS IS IT, EVERYONE!!! OCEAN FRONT PARK STATUS UPDATE Construction on the Ocean Front Park is temporarily stopped while the Town Council addresses concerns with the contractor. The Town Council is reviewing options to provide quality workmanship on the project and is committed to resolving the matter and resuming construction as soon as possible.
NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL In December, the Town of Kure Beach will swear in four new members on Council: David Heglar, Steve Pagley, Emilie Swearingen and Dean Lambeth. David and Emilie will serve 4-year terms; Steve will serve out the final 2-years of a past Council member’s term; and Dean Lambeth will serve a two year term as mayor. Chuck Keener will continue to serve on Council the remaining two years of his term. We’ll be saying goodbye to Commissioner Jim Dugan, who is retiring from office. The date of the swearing-in ceremony will be announced, and we hope you’ll join us at that time. Stay tuned for further details.
COUNCIL MEETING NOVEMBER 15 – DONATE CANNED/NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS Laurie Taylor from the Federal Point Help Center will perform the invocation during the regular Council meeting to be held at Town Hall on Tuesday, November 15, beginning at 6:30 pm. We will have a box at the entrance door of the council chambers, if you would like to donate a canned and/or non-perishable food item for the help center. We hope you’ll join us in this worthy effort to help the center stock their pantry for those in need.
INSTALLATION OF SIDEWALK ON NORTH SIDE OF K AVENUE – PUBLIC HEARING NOVEMBER 15 The Town Council is considering a request from the Shoreline Access and Parking committee to install a sidewalk on the north side of K Avenue beginning at Third Avenue and continuing to Seventh Avenue. The sidewalk will begin ten (10) feet from the street and will be five (5) feet in width. There will be no curbing. Click on THIS LINK to see a mock up of the location of the proposed sidewalk. The Town plans to share the cost of the installation with the Department of Transportation (DOT), as this portion of K Avenue is a state road. The sidewalk will be installed on the DOT Right of Way. The Town’s portion of the cost will be paid from Powell Bill Funds (gas tax). A public hearing will be held on this proposal on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 5:30 pm, or soon thereafter, at Town Hall in the Council Room. KURE BEACH ANNUAL STREET FESTIVAL COMMITTEE TO MEET IN NOVEMBER This is official notice that the Annual Street Festival Committee will meet at Town Hall on Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to interview applicants for committee membership and to begin planning the 2012 Kure Beach Annual Street Festival. This meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.
TOYS FOR TOTS TENNIS MIXER – DECEMBER 10 There will be a “Toys for Tots” Tennis Mixer at the tennis courts at Joe Eakes Park on Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The entry fee is a donation to Toys for Tots. The format is doubles mixer with timed rounds of progressive partner doubles. Advanced registration is required and all levels are welcome. Maximum number of entries is 20, so please register ASAP. Pizza & sodas will be served to all participants. To register, go to www.pleasureislandtennis.info.
