The area has been home to more than 350 movie and television productions since Dino DeLaurentis filmed his movie "Firestarter" here in 1983. Some of the productions shot here include "Dawson's Creek", "One Tree Hill", "Blue Velvet", "A Walk To Remember", "The Secret Life of Bees", and "Nights in Rodanthe".
