New Hanover County has a g reat public school system. There are four high schools in the Wilmington area including Hoggard, New Hanover, Laney (home of Michael Jordan) and Ashley. Student enrollment is based on geographic location of residence.

Two interesting features of the Wilmington school system are the magent schools, and the year round schools.Some parents love the year round schools. The magent schools offer specific course work and focused topics such as math, technology and science.
